WHY WORK WITH MARA: Mara's teaching draws on her years of acting for the stage as a performer, then later as a director and playwright. Her work as a teaching artist in-school and after-school with over 150+ youth over 10 years, ages TK-12th grade, informs her educational style. Mara believes anyone can build the skills of acting and public speaking through a personalized approach and quality practice.

Ways to Learn with Mara

There are two options for working with Mara. Families and learners are unique, and so are their schedules.

The MVP: Weekly One-on-One

This is for the aspiring actor who’s just getting started out at any level. Auditioning for a school show for the first time? Starting rehearsals for a summer stock or community theater production? Let me know, and you’ll receive a new skill to work on during and after each 45-minute session.

Every session, Mara and the learner will set a specific goal which can include:

  • Preparing written text, whether in monologue, song lyric, or scene format
  • Assess strengths and skills, with areas of growth
  • Creating a personalized physical and vocal warm-up routine to build skill
  • Increase confidence and self-express over a period of time

The All Star Package: 8-Session One-on-One

This plan is for the learners who have the foundations covered but knows it's time to fine-tune their acting skills.

Over the course of 8 sessions, Mara will work alongside you and provide the following:

  • Introductory meeting to learn about your previous experience and where you hope to go next
  • Assess strengths, skills, and areas of growth
  • Customized 8-session arc with a plan to address strengths and areas of growth
  • Preparing written text, whether in monologue, song lyric, or scene format
  • Creating a personalized physical and vocal warm-up routine to build skill
  • Increase confidence and self-expression over a period of time
  • Create a list of goal roles or projects with transition plan
  • Direct email access for questions in between sessions, or for drop-in / emergency questions

Meet Mara.

Mara Palma (she/her) aims to connect people to their inner child, so that they live the highest versions of themselves. She is a Creative Freelancer who helps her busy clients bring projects to completion, ranging from spoken and written expression to creative direction/design to body doubling. Mara is an artist who believes in the power of self-expression as a force for positive change, especially for young people.

As a director, Mara is most drawn to work and collaborators that build bridges between the Self and the Community. As an Associate Director: Disney Cruise Lines - Treasure. As an Assistant Director: Lyric Stage Company (Boston), Fresh Ink Theatre (Boston), and Annex Theatre (Seattle). As a teaching artist, Mara has worked with organizations such as Center Theater Group, About...Productions, and Seattle Theater Group.

Mara graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, Theatre Studies and Political Science, Wellesley College and a Classical Acting Short Course Certificate from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. She's currently based in the Los Angeles area.
